Malware and spyware:
In May, Cyber Talk interviewed malware expert, Aseel Kayal, who shared insights into whether or not corporate executives are at risk of surveillance-related threats.
In following up on the topic, new research shows that 46% of C-levels experienced a spyware attack last year. Between 2018 and 2019, spyware attacks targeting C-levels increased by 35%.
According to SC Magazine, spyware attacks most commonly occur as a result of inadequate cyber security protections. When business leaders request for security protocols to be disabled in order to improve productivity, they may be opening doors for hackers.
“Organizations should not be prioritizing productivity over security: saving an hour of work can cost thousands of dollars,” says one COO.
For those at the top, phishing attacks represent the most common type of threat, with spyware a close second.
Malware and remote working:
In the spring of this year, cyber criminals eagerly optimized their efforts to exploit organizational transitions to new infrastructure, and new remote working set-ups. Ransomware attacks exploded, and experts witnessed a 72% increase in ransomware types. IT teams have been “overwhelmed” in trying to fend off these attacks.
To protect your organization from ransomware attacks, it’s critical to have the right cyber security tools in place. Organizations should be able to obtain full visibility into their assets across the network, allowing them to see which resources could be accessed by hackers.
“The need for focused remediation strategies that are informed by full network visibility and clear, data-rich intelligence has never been more pressing,” says one expert.
