Earlier this year, the rapidfire transition to cloud systems led to a significant increase in the number of cyber threats targeting digital infrastructure and remote employees. Coronavirus related phishing attacks escalated from a few thousand per week in February, to over 200,000 per week by late April.

As lockdown restrictions began to ease in May and June, threat actors increased their attack frequency. By the end of June, experts saw a 34% increase in all attack types. More cyber attacks occurred during the first half of 2020 than across the entirety of 2019, according to Dark Reading.
