EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

A new survey conducted by Ponemon shows that 79 percent of CISOs and other security leaders cannot say for sure if humans or bots are behind their web traffic.

It turns out that bots now comprise 52 percent of all web traffic, according to the study. Not all bots are bad, though, as some are used for customer service and electronic couponing, among other positive functions. However, the bad bots are troublesome–potentially stealing intellectual property and conducting other malicious activities.

Alison DeNisco Rayome reports in TechRepublic that “Healthcare is also plagued by bots: 42% of healthcare traffic is from bots, and only 20% of IT security leaders said they were certain they could identify malicious ones.”
