EXECUTIVE REVIEW:

While not quite yet ready for prime time–thankfully–a new experiment shows that it is possible to use DNA infected with malware to hack a computer.

DNA is the stuff that life is made of–all the material that makes humans and other organisms. Within it, information is stored as code denoted as A, G, C, and T.  For those in the tech world, 0s and 1s are the code of life.

By translating a computer command into a stretch of DNA letters, scientists encoded malicious software into DNA purchased online. Then, when a gene sequencer analyzed the DNA, the program became infected by the malware, allowing the hacker-scientists to take full control of the computer.

Wow. My brain hurts.
