‘Insert skimmers,’ which are thin devices that slide undetected into ATM card slots, are gaining popularity among hackers committing cyber fraud. Worse, the skimmers are becoming more sophisticated.

For the uninitiated, skimmers capture card data to be used fraudulently or sold online. In his latest report on skimmers, KrebsOnSecurity reports on an emerging trend: built-in technology that lets cyber criminals transmit stolen card data wirelessly via infrared–the same way a TV remote control works.
