EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Daily log files of subscribers’ calls to customer service were left unprotected in the cloud by a third-party company that Verizon partners with to analyze the data. The number of customers affected could be as high as 14 million; the exposed data included phone numbers, account PINs, email and home addresses, and other personal information.

The incident is yet another cautionary tale underscoring the importance of not assuming your organization is secure when data leaves your premises–especially when partnering with third parties.
