The cyber security talent shortage is no secret. But what might be surprising is the fact that it’s only getting worse–in the midst of increasing costs trying to fight cybercrime. In response, organizations are taking non-traditional approaches to recruit prospective employees.

Some of the approaches:

  • Tapping the female workforce–helping to offset the other shortage of women in tech
  • Looking beyond the technology background–for instance, music, art, and creative problem solving
  • Attending competitive hacking conferences–to spot individuals with natural affinities for tackling cybercriminal issues
  • Investing in upcoming generations–e.g. IBM’s Hacker Highschool
